The Awards ceremony was not unlike the environmental version of the Academy Awards complete with floor length gowns, tuxedos and a “green” carpet, were multiple people were caught photographed walking down. On June 16th the Emerald Awards were held at the Citaldel theater were Eco-Air was nominated in the Youth category. And to our great surprise and pleasure WE WON! The award was accepted by Willow, joined by Mikayla, Molly and Sam on stage. The night ended with buffet style refreshments and a chance to mingle with the other nominees and award winners. It was truly a night to remember!

Eco-Air Denied!

Thats right, Eco-Air was denied the Anti idling bylaw. But don’t worry we will try again, preserver through the rough times and come out on top!

The Raging Grannies

The Raging Grannies (or just "Raging Grannies") are an activist organization that started in Victoria, British Columbia, over the winter of 1986/87. There are now groups in many cities and towns in different countries. They are social justice activists, all women old enough to be grandmothers, who dress up in clothes that mock stereotypes of older women, and sing songs at protests. They typically write the lyrics themselves, putting their political messages to the tunes of well known songs

Yes, thats right, Eco-air members Willow Austin, Mikayla Evans and Anna Talman Were Quoted by none other than David Suzuki in his online newsletters, these Greenagers were caught Saying:
• "I saw a car idling and thought it would be a problem because it was making it hard for me to breathe." (Eco-air founder Anna Talman,)
• "Idling harms people like me…. and polar bears are my favorite animal and it makes me sad to see them all die….we don't want to be going around with gas masks on and talking like Darth Vader." (Willow Austin,)
• "I tell my parents to stop (idling their cars) and I am educating them." (Mikayla Evans,)

Come one, come all to the Idling bylaw meeting at City Hall on January, 13th/09’. Come on down and show your support for an anti-idling bylaw, their will speeches made by members of Eco-Air and other people who are routing for, (and hopefully not) against the anti-idling bylaw. Here is some more info:
The Anti-Idling Bylaw scheduled at the Transportation and Public Works Committee meeting as a non-statutory public hearing on January 13th/09

The agenda will not be finalized until December 2 and available on our website on December 4 at www.edmonton.ca/meetings

You can call directly to register to speak Ph. 442-4709 at any time or you can register on-line at http://webproxy.edmonton.ca:20050/forms/requesttospeak/default.aspx

And below please find our process for speaking at a Committee meeting.
1. Administration will make initial presentation.  2. The Committee will hear from speakers.  3. Each speaker will have up to five minutes to make his or her presentation.  4. After all speakers have spoken, Members of the Committee will have have the opportunity to ask questions.  5. Once all the presenters have spoken, Members of the Committee may then ask questions of Administration.  6. The Committee will then deal with the item.
If you wish to hand out any materials, please bring 20 copies and provide them to the City Clerk prior to speaking.  If you have a powerpoint presentation, please send via email to: Tracey.Orbell@edmonton.ca
